  1. Watergate Scandal

On the 16th day of June 1972, there was a guard in Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C., who found a piece of tape on the lock of the door of the National Democratic Headquarters.
This break in was a part of a campaign being made by President Nixon’s supporters in order to destroy the candidates’ and the Democratic Party’s reputation and record. The democratic candidates were harassed and being subjected to destructive advertisements.
After the said break-in spread, Pres. Nixon released an order to cover the entire National Democratic Headquarters. Because of the order being released by Nixon, it became clear to the people that the Nixon presidency is involved in manipulating and abusing the power as a president for many years.
Nixon’s supporters spent millions of dollars for covering up for the reason of hiding the truth from the Congress and the Americans.
The investigation found out that John Erlichman-President and Chief of the Domestic Council and Bob Haldeman-Chief of Staff were found out defending attempting to save the presidency, and would be fired.
The investigators came up with the following questions: “What did the president know? “And” When did he know it?”
Later they revealed that President Nixon have the knowledge about the break-in from the beginning and also with the cover-up as it progressed.
Some media considered the Watergate scandal as a minor and with little significance story, until Carl Bernstein and Bob Wood Ward who were working for the Washington Post began to dig deeper into the break-in. And they found Nixon guilty.
On the 8th day of August 11974.president Nixon announced to the Americans that he had no longer enough political base to support his remaining time in office and he resigned the presidency.
